Literature Text

We will be together.

I can hear your laughter,
like music chimes on the wind.
And your smile is radiance,
like the sun it warms me.

Your touch is soft and gentle,
fingers brush tears from my cheek.
And I taste your lips against mine,
sweeter than any chocolate.

But you become ash in my mouth,
and slip through my fingers like sand.
For you are a hope and a dream,
a lie my mind made and my heart believes.

Are you real or just a phantom,
a simple figment of my rumination?
Do you stare at the same stars in longing,
or are you like the void that separates them?

My heart says that you too are waiting,
for what cradles you in imagination.

We will be together.

Someday.
I am, by my own admitance, a 'hopeless romantic'. I believe that there is someone special out there who completes me and I believe that someday we will find each other. It is a very intimidating thought, thinking that ONE PERSON is out there in this big crazy old world, and I frequently find myself fighting despair at not having found her yet.

I can see her in my mind, feel her fingers intertwined with my own. Could she possibly be real, or am I suffering a delusion?

Still, I hold onto hope and press on because sometimes that's all any of us can do!

Comments and critiques are always welcome.

I know that feeling :) [link] A piece I write about hopeless romantics. You don't have to read it or comment, thought you might be interested. Nice to see people with similar ideas sometimes.

But as a general critique, be careful of cliches: laughter and chimes, sun and smile, lips and chocolate, stars and longing. The 4th stanza is probably my favourite
